Yes. Your PC only runs commands that start with a tool on the PC Companion's built-in list — mostly Windows' own tools, such as PowerShell, SFC and DISM — and refuses everything else. Every command shows you exactly what it does before you send it, and anything higher-risk, like deleting files or restarting, asks for your OK on the PC first. Commands are encrypted end-to-end, and the app deletes each one about an hour after you send it; the clean-up runs on your phone, so closing the app first can leave a command on our servers.

The app needs no account or password. The download page asks for your email so we can send Kickstarter and update news.

Windows 10 and Windows 11. Both 64-bit versions. Not compatible with Mac or Linux.

The PC Companion, the free download that connects your phone to your PC, costs nothing. The fixes themselves live in the WindowsHelper phone app, which is coming soon and has no announced price yet, so we can't put a number on it. For comparison, a US repair shop typically charges $50–$100 just to diagnose a problem, before any repair.

Yes, this is normal for a new app. Windows shows it for apps that haven't yet built up a download history with Microsoft — and the PC Companion isn't code-signed yet. To proceed: Click "More info" then "Run anyway". You only need to do this once — Windows remembers your choice.

Yes! As long as both your phone and PC have internet, you can send commands from anywhere. Your phone could be in New York and your PC in California — it still works.

Right-click the green WindowsHelper icon in your system tray (bottom-right of your screen, near the clock) and select "Uninstall WindowsHelper". It disconnects your phone, deletes your settings, history and logs, turns off automatic startup and deletes the program itself. Windows may ask for your permission once.

For trickier problems, live remote help is available — a WindowsHelper expert can securely view and control your screen and fix things for you. It only happens after you approve the connection right on your own screen, so nothing starts without your say-so. It's a one-time session, and you can end it anytime.

Yes. Nobody can connect to your PC without your on-screen approval every single time — there's no standing access and no way in uninvited. Each session is one-time only, you watch everything happen live, and you can end it instantly. WindowsHelper will never connect to your PC unless you asked for help and approved it yourself — if anyone ever contacts you out of the blue claiming to be "support," that's not us.
