What's different about apps on an ARM-based PC

Newer Windows PCs built on ARM chips — the kind marketed as “Copilot+” or built around Snapdragon processors — use a fundamentally different chip design than most PCs sold over the last few decades. An app written specifically for that older, more common chip design doesn't automatically run natively on an ARM chip; unless it's been rebuilt for ARM, it runs through a translation layer that converts its instructions on the fly. That translation step is what can show up as sluggishness, stuttering, or odd little glitches in a specific app, even on a perfectly capable PC.

It's a different pattern from a PC simply being slow all over — apps already built for ARM run at full native speed, so what you usually notice is one or two specific apps behaving oddly while everything else, including Windows itself, feels normal.
