☁️ Fix Cloud Storage Sync Conflicts
Last updated: March 7, 2026
Everything you need to recognize and resolve Cloud Storage Sync Conflicts, part of the Multi-Device Ecosystem Synchronization guides.
Not sure this is your exact issue? Every WindowsHelper guide is scoped to one specific problem — not a generic troubleshooting checklist — so if the title above matches what you're seeing, this is the right guide.
What a sync conflict actually is
This is distinct from a cloud service's whole sync process getting stuck or failing, and distinct from who's allowed to access a shared file. A sync conflict specifically happens when the same file gets changed in two places — your PC and another device, or you and someone else — before either version had a chance to sync, and the cloud service ends up with two versions it can't automatically merge into one.
When this happens, most cloud services don't silently pick a winner — they typically keep both versions, often renaming one to include something like “conflicted copy” or a device and date marker, which is a specific, recognizable pattern separate from a general sync failure.
Signs you're looking at a conflict, not a sync failure
- Two versions of the same file appear, with one renamed to indicate a conflict, a device, or a date
- The same file was being edited on more than one device, or by more than one person, around the same time
- Everything else is syncing normally — it's one specific file, not sync broadly, that's affected
- One version of the file seems to be missing recent changes that you know you made
How serious is it?
Usually minor
Nothing is deleted in a conflict on its own — both versions typically still exist, side by side.
Worth taking seriously
If you're not sure which version has the changes you actually need, look carefully at both before deleting either one — once one is gone, that comparison isn't possible anymore.
Why deleting one copy right away is risky
Deleting whichever copy looks wrong at a glance is tempting, but conflict copies don't always make it obvious which one has the changes you actually want — and once one is deleted, comparing them to be sure isn't possible anymore.
Helping you tell what actually changed between two conflicting versions before deciding what to keep is what WindowsHelper is being built to do.
