What “access denied” on a shared folder means

Your PC can successfully find a shared folder on the network and still be turned away from opening it — those are two separate checks. The first is whether the two devices can talk to each other at all; the second, layered on top, is whether the specific account you’re signed in with is actually allowed into that folder. This error means the second check failed, even though the first one clearly worked.

That distinction matters because a lot of general troubleshooting focuses on the connection itself — when the connection is already fine here, and the real gap is who’s permitted in.

Not based on this error alone — being able to see the shared folder means the connection itself is working. The denial is happening at a separate permission check.
Why can one account get in and not another on the same PC?
Because access is granted to specific accounts, not to the whole PC — each account can genuinely have different permission to the same shared folder.
Are my files still safe if I’m denied access?
