Fix Slow Internet Speed on Windows 11
Last updated: July 26, 2025
Speed up slow internet by switching DNS, stopping background bandwidth hogs, flushing DNS cache, disabling throttling, and optimizing your browser.
Overview
Internet crawling? This guide covers 6 methods to boost your connection speed including DNS optimization, bandwidth management, and browser cleanup.
What's really behind “slow internet” on your PC
When your internet feels slow, it's easy to assume the problem is your provider or your Wi-Fi signal — but often the slowdown is happening on your PC itself, in how Windows and your browser are handling the connection, not out on the wider network. A perfectly good internet plan can still feel sluggish if something on the PC side is getting in its own way.
The confusing part is that “slow” can mean different things: pages that take forever to start loading, downloads that crawl, or video calls that stutter — and each of those points toward a different part of the chain between your PC and the internet.
How to tell it's this
- Speed tests show your connection is fine, but browsing still feels sluggish
- It's slow on this PC but faster on your phone or another device on the same network
- Some websites and apps are slow while others load normally
- It got noticeably worse after an update, or gradually over time
How serious is it?
Usually minor
Everyday slowness that's just annoying — nothing here risks your files or your PC, and it's almost always fixable without new equipment.
Worth taking seriously
If speeds crashed suddenly and every device in the house is affected equally, that points more toward your provider or router than your PC — worth checking another device first.
Why swapping settings blindly rarely helps
Slow-internet advice online throws a long list of unrelated tweaks at you — and because slowness can come from so many different places, most of that list won't apply to your actual situation, so you try five things and nothing changes.
The useful approach is working out whether the slowdown is really happening on your PC, and if so, which part of it, rather than guessing your way through a generic checklist. Reading what's actually happening on your machine and guiding the fix that matches it is what WindowsHelper is being built to do.
