Remove Bloatware & Pre-Installed Apps from Windows 11
Last updated: April 24, 2025
Remove unwanted pre-installed apps, manufacturer bloatware, and promotional apps. Stop Windows from silently reinstalling removed apps.
Overview
PC full of apps you never asked for? This guide shows how to remove bloatware, clean up Start Menu, and stop Windows from reinstalling junk.
What “bloatware” actually is, and why it’s there
Bloatware is the collection of extra apps that arrive already installed on a new Windows 11 PC — some from Microsoft, some placed there by the manufacturer, often things you never asked for and may never use. It exists mostly because of business arrangements between manufacturers and software companies, not because those apps are things most people need on day one.
It’s a genuinely different situation from a program you installed yourself and later want gone — pre-installed apps sometimes have deeper ties into the system, are occasionally harder to fully remove through the ordinary route, and it’s worth knowing which of them are safe to remove versus which play a role you might not expect before clearing them out.
Why this is worth doing thoughtfully
- Your PC came with apps you never chose and don’t recognize the purpose of
- You want a cleaner Start menu or system without unnecessary extras
- You’ve tried removing something pre-installed before and it didn’t fully go away
- You’re not sure whether a specific pre-installed app is safe to remove or actually needed
How serious is it?
Usually minor
This is a cleanup and preference topic, not a fault — pre-installed apps aren’t dangerous just by being there, they’re simply extra.
Worth taking seriously
The real risk is removing something that turns out to matter more than expected — worth knowing what an app actually is before clearing it out, rather than removing everything unfamiliar at once.
Why “remove everything unfamiliar” isn’t quite the right approach
Treating every pre-installed app the same and clearing all of them out risks removing something that quietly supports a feature you actually use, while a more selective approach means understanding what each one actually does first — which most generic “clean install” advice skips over entirely.
Helping you understand what your PC’s pre-installed apps actually are, and clear out what’s genuinely unnecessary without guessing, is what WindowsHelper is being built to guide you through.
