What's going wrong with the streaming software itself

Streaming software sits between your PC and your stream — capturing your screen, camera, and audio, mixing them together, and sending the result out to a platform. When the software itself is the problem, it can mean a scene or source not showing anything, the software crashing outright, or the stream failing to actually start or connect, separate from how smoothly your game itself is running while you do it.

This is different from frame-rate drops while streaming, where the game and the software are both technically working but competing for the same resources — this is about the streaming software behaving incorrectly on its own, sometimes even before a game is involved at all.

Is this the same as frame-rate drops while streaming?
No — frame drops mean everything is technically working but under strain. This is the streaming software itself misbehaving, like a black source or a crash, which is a different kind of problem.
Why does one scene work and another doesn't?
That's a useful clue — it usually points to something specific about that scene's sources or settings, rather than the whole software being broken.
Will reinstalling the software fix it?
