Common questions

Why does it work in one app but not another?
That's a strong sign the camera hardware is fine and the issue is a per-app permission, or one app is holding the camera so another can't. It's one of the most common — and telling — versions of this.
Is my webcam broken?
Usually not. The large majority of camera problems are permissions or settings, not hardware. A genuinely dead camera is the exception.
Something says the camera is “in use” — what does that mean?
It means another app already grabbed it. Cameras can only be used by one app at a time, so this is a common, easily-resolved cause.
Can an app use my camera without me knowing?
